Dismayed with weak research in other books, the author has strived to produce the definitive history of the early years (1873-1901) of Walsall Football Club. In doing so, he has discovered a founding date over a decade earlier than previously known and becomes the first person to discover the exact location of Walsall Swifts' Follyhouse Lane ground and a sister club Rushall Rovers. A week by week progress of both the Swifts and Town clubs are given as the story of football in Walsall unfolds. Only original material sourced from Victorian newspapers has been used to provide the greatest accuracy. Many rare photographs are included in a book welcomed by the club themselves and reviewed by Allan and Wayne Clarke. Printed on the finest silk paper to enhance difficult images, such as the unique photo of Walsall Swifts only 4 years after they were founded.
